Why I Write
Greetings all, on this, 'Murica's National Day on Writing. How lovely.
I'm not American, never been there, but I do like to appropriate their better national observance days. And for shame, Australia doesn't seem to have a national day for writers that I could find reference to.
So here we are; hijacking the Yanks.
Like many writers, I also read a lot. A day without reading is well, not a day I've ever lived through to be honest. And while I have pre-existing opinions, and then *thoughts* on what i'm reading at the time, it's not until I start to write, that my brain processes and can articulate my own views on everything I've just poured into it.
And it's a wonderful position for a blogger to be in; I literally have over two thousand items to write about, articles, pictures I've seen which have prompted thoughts, lectures on urban design I have attended, other cyclists I have run into, great and terrible ideas from overseas, and of course, interactions with people.
But it's an awful position for a blogger to be in, because I just do not have the time to give proper credit and attention to all the fantastic ideas out there in the world. My day job continues to demand every last brain cell and ounce of cognitive effort, I have been sick, and I have missed my bike and my keyboard almost equally. I've posted blogs which I would have loved to have spent hours more researching and editing, and I do often go back and add bits to already published blogs when I have time later, but, y'know, life ... even this post is late, and I had an actual deadline for posting it. Bah.
So let's hope that changes for me soon, and I have faith that it will; but in the meantime, a ...
Happy Culturally Appropriated National Writer's Day to you all !
With special thoughts today to my friends Kathryn, and James, writers both in their own media, with special challenges at the moment. This too shall pass...
